TJ Reid has given new Kilkenny senior hurling manager Henry Shefflin a boost by confirming that he's ready to extend his inter-county career, if he's wanted.

Reid, who will turn 39 next month, fired five points as Shamrocks beat Tullaroan by 22 points in the Kilkenny SHC final to claim a 22nd title.

It was attacker Reid's 13th county title success in a lengthy club career that began over 20 years ago.

Along with sibling Richie, who also featured in Shamrocks' one-sided 2-24 to 0-8 county final win, the pair are the last playing links to Kilkenny's last All-Ireland SHC win in 2015.

Goalkeeper Eoin Murphy was involved back then also but recently announced his inter-county retirement.

Asked if he's ready to play on into 2027 with Kilkenny, seven-time MacCarthy Cup winner Reid was initially coy before opening up with a positive response.

"Look, obviously Henry (Shefflin) is over the new management team," said Reid, referencing his clubmate who was at UPMC Nowlan Park for Shamrocks' latest success.

"There's nothing after starting yet anyway, Kilkenny-wise. At the moment, I'm still a Kilkenny player. So that's still there.

"We'll see. Look, as I said, Ballyhale Shamrocks is first and foremost. Obviously you want to play forever, so you do. I'll try my best to do that. As I said, we'll regroup first. If there's a panel picked and if I'm called for it, I'll be there. and if not, so be it."

Reid said he is eyeing a long winter with Shamrocks who were narrowly defeated in last year's Leinster club final, denying them a 13th title which would have extended their lead at the head of the provincial roll of honour.

They will play Laois champions The Harps in a Leinster club quarter-final tie in Portlaoise on November 8.

"We're going to drive on, we want to drive on because that was a big statement (loss) up in Croke Park last year," said Reid. "We'll train hard, and we'll get back to action on Wednesday."

As for denying Tullaroan the win that would have drawn them level on 21 titles apiece in Kilkenny, Reid said it was used as motivation beforehand.

"You use every motivation you can," he said. "But it was really just about the county final. It didn't matter who was on top. If we lost today, it wouldn't have mattered what way the roll of honour went. It was about the new cup, the county final cup. It was to win that. And if we win that, then other things come up."
