However, he admitted he was wrong and went on to compliment the newspaper’s camogie coverage.

“I know I got one thing wrong last year when I talked about the player ratings in the Irish Examiner,” said Murray. “I didn't look at them yesterday, but I wasn't proud of the way I handled that last year, what I said, and the way I said it.

“I think when you open the Irish Examiner, you just see four or five pages of camogie all this week. And to Eoghan (Cormican), Therese (O’Callaghan) and all involved in that, I just got that wrong last year.

“I apologise for it. I didn't like the way it came across, but it's something that I wasn't proud of afterwards. As I said, I think they do brilliant coverage for camogie, and that's what we want, as all ye (media) do.”
