Watch: Reigning champion Jason Smyth wins 100m heat comfortably

The Derry athlete looked comfortable as he aims to secure a third consecutive Paralympic 100m gold at the Rio Games.
The final takes place at 3.09pm tomorrow afternoon.

Earlier today James Scully qualified for the final of the Swimming S5 200m FS by finishing third in his heat, with a season's best time. At midnight Irish time, he finished sixth in the final in a time of 2.51.45. The event was won by Brazilian Daniel Dias in a time of 2.27.88.

Also in the pool, Ailbhe Kelly finished seventh in the Swimming S8 400m FS Heats, although the 17-year-old should be seen to better effect in Sunday’s 100m backstroke.
In athletics, Greta Streimikyte has qualified for the final of the T13 1500m event on Saturday.
The Swords runner finished third in her heat with an Irish record time of 4.51.75.

In cycling, Damien Vereker and Sean Hahessy were eighth in the Individual B Pursuit Qualifying Heats, while in the Shooting R1 10m Rifle Standing Qualifiers, Sean Baldwin finished 19th.
The Irish 7-a-side football team endured a tough start to their group games, losing 6-0 to to favourites Ukraine.
