Pictures: UFC star Miesha Tate comes to a little girl’s rescue
With their awesome physiques and no-holds-barred fighting styles, UFC athletes have a ferocious reputation.
But former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate showed they also have a softer side when she came to a little girl’s rescue while mountain climbing.
Tate and a pal were at the top of Mount Charleston in Nevada, when they noticed a slightly-built woman struggling to carry her daughter.
Six-year-old Kai had broken her arm and her mother was in difficulty trying to get her safely back down the mountain.
Tate, who started out as a teen wrestler before moving into MMA, offered to take the girl instead and carried her the two miles to the bottom.
Afterwards, she wrote on Facebook: “I preceded to carry the sweet little thing all the way to the bottom. Kai and I learned a lot about each other on the roughly 2 mile descent and It's fair to say she inspired me.
“We made it all the way down without slipping or falling! We agreed we would both be strong for each other! Teamwork at it's best!”
Kai’s family were hugely grateful to the UFC star.
“You saved us hours of a hike which in turn helped us get her to the hospital sooner,” her dad wrote on Facebook. “Without your help we may still be on the mountain trying to get down in the dark.
“Thank you so much once again. You truly were a blessing and you've earned some new fans!”
Kai's family didn't initially realise who she was, all Tate told them was that she was a professional athlete.
It sounds like she earned UFC a whole family of new fans.
