Setanta Sports Cup wrap

It's shaping up to be an all Airtricity League last four in the Setanta Sports Cup for the first time in the competition's history following last night's action north and south of the border.

Cork City confirmed their semi-final place with goals from Daryl Horgan, Daryl Kavanagh and a late own goal from David Magowan giving them a 3-1 win away to holders Crusaders in their quarter-final second leg at Seaview.

Paul Heatley got Crusaders' consolation goal as Cork won the tie on a 4-1 on aggregate.

Sligo Rovers are all but through as they routed Glentoran 5-0 at the Showground in their first leg.

Ian Baraclough's Airtricity League champions impressed from the off in their first competitive game of the season as they ran up a 4-0 interval lead with Lee Lynch topping and tailing the goals with new signing Anthony Elding and Ryan Connolly scoring in between.

Central defender Evan McMillan, another close season signing, added a fifth goal early in the second half.

Shamrock Rovers also all but booked their place in the last four with a rousing 4-1 win over Irish League champions Linfield at Tallaght Stadium.

Ciaran Kilduff, their hero in the last round with a late winner against Coleraine, worked the oracle again with two goals.

Man-of-the-match Ronan Finn tapped home the lead goal on 34 minutes with Kilduff heading the second on the blow of the break.

Billy Joe Burns scored the goal of the game with a stunning volley to appear to get Linfield back into the game on 63 minutes.

But Kilduff struck again nine minutes later before substitute Stephen Rice added a fourth.

Linfield blew a chance to give themselves a little hope ahead of the second leg when Hoops' keeper Barry Murphy saved a tame penalty from Brian McCaul right on 90 minutes.

In the only game that is delicately poised ahead of next week's returns, Drogheda United came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Derry City at the Brandywell.

Rory Patterson gave Derry a 10th minute lead from a free kick. But Declan O'Brien levelled for Mick Cooke's Drogheda eight minutes into the second half.
