Barry takes bronze in discus

Cork native Orla Barry took Bronze in tonight’s F57/58 Discus Throw final at the Olympic Stadium.

Barry’s first throw of 28.12 was enough to rank her in third position going into the medal throw off. Barry entered the throwing cage knowing the bronze medal was secured but could not register a throw further than her first effort.

Barry is an amputee from Ladysbridge in Cork. She broke onto the international scene aged just sixteen in 2006, finishing a creditable fifth in the final of the F57 discus at Beijing in 2008.

In 2011, Orla was just outside the medals at the IPC World Championships in New Zealand. She went on however to set a new European Discus record. She won gold at the gold at the 2011 IPC European Championships last June.
