Haye lays into Chisora supporters
David Haye has branded Dereck Chisora’s fans “idiots” as the sworn enemies prepare for tomorrow’s potentially explosive showdown at Upton Park.
Haye points to Chisora’s lengthy string of convictions and his conduct in boxing as the reasons why he loathes his British rival.
And the 31-year-old former WBA world heavyweight champion, who starts as a strong favourite, questions the sanity of Chisora’s supporters.
“Chisora’s not a nice guy, the fact he bites people in the ring, spits water in peoples’ faces, slaps people at weigh-ins, kisses people at weigh-ins. What’s to like?” he said.
“I don’t know how anyone in their right mind could support Dereck Chisora, a convicted woman beater.
“Who would support someone like that? Someone who says and does the things he does? What is there to support?
“What type of sane human being supports someone like that? Maybe another idiot would, someone like himself.
“There were a handful of idiots here who supported him at the weigh-in, they were probably his mates.”
Haye will be conceding 37lbs for the 10-round clash, which is scheduled to start at 10pm, after scaling 210lbs at yesterday’s weigh-in in Leicester Square.
It is the lightest he has been for any of his six heavyweight fights by half a pound, with Chisora entering the ring with a two and a half stones advantage.
Apart from the debate over whether the fight should be happening at all as Haye and Chisora are profiting from their outrageous brawl in Munich, fears also exist over security.
With Haye being a Millwall fan, there is a concern that the presence of Lions fans at Upton Park may provoke violence.
Frank Warren, however, insists the Metropolitan Police Service are satisfied the event should go ahead.
“These fears that have been raised are a load of ********,” said Warren, Chisora’s manager.
“The British Boxing Board of Control and one newspaper in particular put all this crap out and it’s annoying.
“I don’t know how many Millwall games David Haye has been to but there hasn’t been any problems at his other fights.
“Dereck supports Manchester United, so what’s the issue?
“The game’s at Upton Park but we’re not selling tickets on the basis of West Ham v Millwall and anybody who suggests that is irresponsible.
“The Met Police have said there is no problem with this show. They’re happy with the stewarding.”
