Varadkar: No windfall for Ireland from London Olympics

Ireland is unlikely to attract any more sports teams for training here ahead of next year's Olympic Games in London, according to the Tourism Minister Leo Varadkar.

Mr Varadkar has issued an 'end of year' report for his department that has admitted that the Olympics have not brought the expected windfall to Ireland.

However, he added that work to bring the Olympic flame through Irish towns and villages continues.

Minister Varadkar said that those teams who decided to base themselves in the UK were given subsidies by the British government, something the Labour / Fine Gael coalition decided against doing.
