Webber doesn't want Vettel helping hand
Mark Webber is adamant he wants no help from Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel in a bid to break his victory duck this season.
Team principal Christian Horner this week remarked Red Bull would do “everything we can to help Mark” finish second in the drivers’ standings to guarantee themselves the ideal finish to a “fantastic season”.
That sparked a debate as to whether Red Bull would implement team orders at some stage over the final three races to ensure Webber grabbed a much-needed win to enhance his cause for the runner-up spot.
Horner even suggested it is a conversation he would have with his drivers, although he felt Webber would want any win to be “on his own merit” rather than gifted.
The situation intensified after qualifying for tomorrow’s inaugural Indian Grand Prix as there will be an all-Red Bull front row, with Vettel claiming his 13th pole position of the season.
Webber, who initially qualified third, joins the 24-year-old German at the front after being elevated one place due to Lewis Hamilton’s three-position penalty after his practice infringement yesterday.
But any suggestion of assistance from Vettel at the final three races drew short shrift from Webber who said: “Nothing will be different.
“There’s been a lot of talk from the team, but no talk from me. I don’t want any positions off Sebastian for the remainder of the year. Nothing will change.”
And as for the prospect of finishing second to Vettel in the title race, the 35-year-old Australian also dismissed that suggestion.
Webber added: “I think wins are more important for me.”
