World Poker Tour to debut in Ireland next year

One of the most prestigious international poker events in the world is coming to Ireland for the very first time this January.

One of the most prestigious international poker events in the world is coming to Ireland for the very first time this January.

The PKR.com WPT Ireland event will kick off the 2012 World Poker Tour calendar at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin, running from January 3-8.

Ken Doherty, former world snooker champion is the Irish ambassador for WPT Ireland, and he is thrilled that this fantastic event is coming to Ireland.

"The WPT is an amazing experience and a great opportunity for Irish players to take part in one of the biggest and best poker tournaments in the world today," he said.

"I am really excited to be involved with WPT Ireland and am really looking forward to it. Being a huge poker fan and watching this particular event regularly on television, I have to say this is the dream for any poker player."

The event will incorporate the popular Irish Poker Championships, formerly held in Galway in early January.

The €750 IPC event will be part of a competitive series of side events to be announced shortly.
