American LaShawn Merritt has been cleared to defend his 400 metres title at the London Olympics after winning his appeal against an International Olympic Committee (IOC) ban.

Merritt was given a two-year suspension, later reduced to 21 months, after testing positive for a banned substance found in a ’male enhancement product’.
