Irish duo fail to advance in World Athletics Championships

Ireland's Fionnuala Britton and Stephanie O'Reilly have failed to advance from the heats of the 3000m Steeplechase in the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

Joanne Cudihhy and Jason Smyth are in action later this afternoon, in the 400m and 100 metres respectively, as is Usain Bolt who gets the defence of his 100m title up and running at 2.25pm.

Earlier this morning Kenyan athlete Edna Kiplagat claimed the first gold medal in the women's marathon.
