Sutherland though to last 16

Irish middleweight Darren Sutherland is through to the last 16 at the World Boxing Championships in Chicago.

The St Saviours fighter beat Armenian Andrak Hakobyan 22-20 on points in a tight encounter, and is one fight away from qualifying for the Olympics.

However, super-heavyweight Cathal McMonagle lost to European champion Islam Timurziev of Russia.

Today, light-fly Paddy Barnes, lightweight Eric Donovan, welterweight Roy Sheahan and light-heavyweight Kenneth Egan are all in action.
