Lee secures comfortable win in Cologne

Limerick middleweight Andy Lee scored a second round knockout of Thomas Hengstberger in Cologne last night to take his perfect pro record to 10-0 (seven KOs).

Lee dominated the scheduled eight-rounder at the Kvln Arena, with Hengstberger, the 34-year-old Austrian who was a late change of opponent, struggling to cope with the power of the former Olympian's punches.

Lee scored knockdowns in the first and second rounds before the fight was called to a halt with one minute and 22 seconds to go in the second round.

The 23-year-old southpaw unleashed a flurry of crisp punches to fell Hengstberger for a second time and maintain his unblemished record.

Lee was fighting on the undercard of the IBO and IBF World heavyweight title clash between defending champion Wladimir Klitschko and Lamon Brewster.

Speaking afterwards, Lee said: "I trained hard for the fight, all the work in the gym paid off tonight. This is my tenth win in 18 months as a pro and where better to be boxing than at this fantastic arena on the undercard to Wladimir Klitschko."

Under the watchful eye of Kronk supremo Emanuel Steward, Lee spent the past few weeks at a training camp in Austria, sparring with Klitschko, Kermit Cintron and Johnathon Banks.

Lee and his manager and trainer Steward will travel back to their Detroit base later today to make plans for the Irishman's next fight.
