Irish boxing squad ready for European Championships

The Irish Senior Boxing squad completed their final training session at the National Stadium in Dublin this evening ahead of the 2007 European Union Senior Boxing Championships which begin at the National Stadium tomorrow.

The 5th European Union Boxing Championships will run from Monday June 18th to Saturday June 23rd inclusively.

Approximately one hundred and forty two boxers representing twenty one nations including Ireland will take part in the Championships at the South Circular Road venue.

The weigh-in for the Championships will take place at the National Stadium tomorrow (June 18th) between 8am and 10am followed by the draw at 11am.

The opening ceremony will be held at the National Stadium at 2pm tomorrow afternoon. Boxing will commence immediately afterwards.

The President of the World Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA), Dr Ching-Kuo Wu will be a special guest of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association for the 5th European Union Championships.

Dr Wu arrived in Dublin today and attended the Dublin versus Meath Gaelic Football game at Croke Park along with the Irish Amateur Boxing Association Central Council.

2007 European Union Championships Schedule:

Monday June 18th: (two sessions)

Weigh-in: 8am to 10am

Draw: 11am.

Opening Ceremony: 2pm.

Boxing will commence immediately after the opening ceremony.

Tuesday June 19th: (Three sessions)

Boxing: 10.30am, 2pm, 7pm

Wednesday June 20th: (Two sessions)

Boxing: 2pm, 7pm

Thursday June 21st: (Two sessions)

Boxing: 2pm, 7pm
