Power claims World Grand Prix title
Darts legend Phil Taylor believes there is still room for improvement despite claiming his seventh World Grand Prix title in Dublin last night.
‘The Power’ secured a hard-fought 7-4 victory over Terry Jenkins in the final of the Skybet-sponsored event – but he is already turning his attention to the Ladbrokes.com World Championship, which starts in December.
Taylor, who will be hoping to win his 14th world title at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, revealed: “I’m going to practice a little bit different this time.
“I was slowing my style down a little bit (in Dublin), hitting right on the wires, and it was bugging me.
“I was trying different stances, speeding up my throw, slowing it down. I just kept trying different things.
“I’ve got to work on a few things now. I’ll get home later today and start work on Tuesday.”
The World Championship remains Taylor’s top target and the spotlight will be on him once again for 11 days over the festive period.
“Every tournament I play in I want to win – I’m a winner, I don’t like losing,” added Taylor. “But the World Championship coming up is very, very special.
“The World Championship, in fact the whole darts circuit, is huge. It’s a massive game to be involved in at the moment and there’s a lot of pressure on me.
“Everyone expects me to turn up and win, but it doesn’t work like that.”
Jenkins, meanwhile, can look forward to next year’s Holsten Premier League after securing one of the six automatic places. Two wild cards will also feature.
“To be honest, I’m more pleased at getting in the Premier League than I would have been if I had won last night,” said Jenkins. “I think that means more to me.”
