Jailed Harrison's father insists 'my son is no monster'

The father of WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison has spoken of his heartbreak at visiting his son in a Spanish jail.

Peter Harrison flew to the Costa del Sol, where his 29-year-old son is being held following his arrest 11 days ago, the Daily Record reported.

He maintains the boxer, whom he trains, is innocent.

Scott Harrison was detained by the Guardia Civil for allegedly trying to steal a car and assaulting a police officer.

He is being held in the Malaga's Alhaurin de la Torre prison. It is understood he is in a wing for English speakers.

The fighter, from Cambuslang, near Glasgow, had been training abroad and was due to return to the ring on December 9 in London.

His father flew out to see him as soon as he heard about the October 6 incident, but told the Daily Record he was unable to meet his son until a week later, separated by a plastic partition.

He said: "I've never known such an intense conversation with my own son. We maintained eye contact for every minute.

"It was the most emotional moment of my life but I was glad I had seen him.

"Scott's a complicated boy. I know he's brought a few things on himself in his time, but I don't think he's anything like the monster people make him out to be. He's not a bad guy."
