Bord na gCon chairman Taggart steps down today

The chairman of Bord na gCon, Paschal Taggart, is to step down today.

It comes as the Comptroller and Auditor General is planning to conduct an investigation into alleged irregularities at the greyhound board.

Mr Taggart told the Minister for Sport John O'Donoghue on Monday that he was resigning with effect from today.

He has been at the centre of a row since January over a dog-doping controversy and the Bord's decision to dismiss its chief executive Aidan Tynan.

Meanwhile, the Comptroller and Auditor General John Purcell has told a Dáil Committee that his office is to examine a number of issues raised during the recent Department of Justice inquiry into the causes of the controversy.

Mr Purcell said that the investigation will include the awarding of contracts during the refurbishment of Dublin's Shelbourne Park stadium between 2000 and 2002.
