Limerick rower Sam Lynch forced to retire

Former world champion rower Sam Lynch has been forced to retire because of a long-term injury.

The 30-year-old Limerick man won the lightweight single sculls world title in Lucerne five years ago and in Seville the following year.

He also represented Ireland at the Atlanta and Athens Olympics and is currently the chairman of the Olympic Council of Ireland's Athletics Commission.
