Family affair continues at Indy 500

The Andretti name will return to the Indianapolis 500 in the shape of third-generation racer Marco after he passed his rookie test.

Marco Andretti, the 18-year-old son of ex-Formula One driver Michael and grandson of former world champion Mario, needed to prove he was able to race safely at Indianapolis before being allowed to enter.

He passed the rookie test comfortably and will compete in the May race for the Andretti Green team run by his father, who is making a one-off return to the Indy 500 this year.

Marco Andretti said: “Everything was a bit of an unknown to me until I got into the car, but now the questions are starting to be answered.

“So in that regard, it was good to finally get some time in the car. It will take a little time, but we made good progress.”
