Single-minded Schumacher shuns rest

Former world champion Michael Schumacher gets back to work early this week, insisting he has no need for a winter holiday following his disastrous 2005 season.

The German traditionally takes a long break over the winter to recharge his batteries.

But after losing his world crown to Fernando Alonso after five unbroken years as number one, the Ferrari driver is in no mood for a rest.

Instead, he returns to the track on Thursday determined to fire Ferrari back to the top.

He said: “When I came back home from the last race in China, everything was somehow different than before. I had no need for a vacation, I had no desire to rest.

“My preparations and training for next season began straightaway. I kept in contact with Maranello and they constantly informed me about testing.

“I wanted to drive again and I will on Thursday and Friday. I am looking forward to it.”
