Lauren Williams wins women’s 100m in Helsinki
Lauren Williams has won the women's 100m event at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki.
The American clinched the gold medal in a time of 10.93 seconds, with Jamacia's Veronica Campbell second, and Frenchwoman Christine Aaron third.
Elsewhere yesterday, Ireland's Karen Shinkins finished last in her semi-final for the 400 metres event and later blamed a loss of concentration during the race.
Two Irish athletes are in action today, with Paul Hession competing in the men's 200 metres and Derval O'Rourke in the women's 100 metres hurdles.
