Barrichello warning for Schumacher
Rubens Barrichello has warned Ferrari team-mate Michael Schumacher to expect no favours from now on after their post-Monaco row.
The Brazilian was angry with the world champion after he overtook for seventh place on the last lap in Monaco, a move he feared would knock both cars out of the race.
Schumacher yesterday attempted to brush the issue aside by claiming his team-mate was “temperamental” but Barrichello has responded by vowing to give no special treatment to Ferrari’s number one driver.
He told the Italian media in the build-up to the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring: “I told Jean Todt what I think.
“I don’t want to be a moaner, but many times, when we have had one-twos, it was said that I made a big contribution to get precious points for the team. In this team I have demonstrated my worth with nine victories.
“At Ferrari I have a say in matters and I speak clearly to the people working with me. This is not the Ferrari team from Eddie Irvine’s times, and mine isn’t the situation from 2002 any more, when in Austria I had to give up my victory to Schumacher.
“Now I know that he won’t protect my racing line, so I’ll act accordingly. In the future I’ll have to consider Michael not as a team-mate, but like any other driver.
“I told Michael that I don’t agree with what he did but at the end of the day we know that he always thinks the way he wants.
“In the meantime what is important for me is the Nurburgring. I am racing here in Germany with a clear objective – to win the grand prix.”
