New opponent for Harrison

English heavyweight Audley Harrison will face mediocre American Robert Davis on June 9 after the withdrawal of original opponent Billy Zumbrun.

Zumbrun pulled out yesterday with an unspecified injury as Harrison, 33, looks to end what will be almost a year out of the ring with a hand injury.

The bout, at the Pechanga resort in California, will be the Olympic champion’s American debut after re-locating from Britain and his first bout since ‘vacating’ his WBF title.

Davis, of Ohio, has 31 wins (19 stoppages) and six defeats with his most recent loss a first-round knockout by the talented Joe Mesi in 2003.

He has, however, won his last three outings against journeymen Paul Ray Phillips (twice) and Matt Green – all by second-round stoppages.

“I will send Harrison back to England where he belongs,” the 33-year-old Davis told Boxing Central.
