Sonia named nation’s best sportsperson

Irish athlete Sonia O'Sullivan has been named as Ireland's Greatest Living Sportsperson.

The Cork native was presented with the honour by President Mary McAleese at the ESB Rehab People of the Year awards in Dublin last night.

Ireland's Olympic gold medallist Cian O'Connor was chosen as Irish Person of the Year.

However, he decided not to accept the award following the positive sample taken from his horse Waterford Crystal.

Father Kieran Creagh was named the International Person of the Year for his work in fighting HIV and AIDS in South Africa.
