Frank Lampard’s scoring run for England continued as he gave Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side an early lead in the World Cup qualifier with Wales at Old Trafford.

The Chelsea midfielder made it six goals in his last nine internationals when he struck after only three minutes, although the ball took a deflection off Michael Owen.

England dominated the opening period with Wayne Rooney looking sharp at the head of the diamond and they created several decent chances but were unable to add to their lead.
