Klien fit despite freak accident

Austrian rookie Christian Klien has declared himself fit for this weekend’s French Grand Prix despite being injured in a freak accident.

The Jaguar driver sliced the top of his right index finger off after fumbling with a cooling fan last week, forcing him to sit out testing.

There had been worries the youngster may be unable to drive at Magny-Cours but the deep gash he suffered in the accident is beginning to heal and Klien is confident his driving will not be impaired.

He said: “It’s getting better. It was quite painful in the beginning because I cut off the top of the first finger on the right hand. It was just the skin but there are a lot of sensitive nerves in the finger so it was really painful.

“It’s getting better now and I will be fit for the weekend, no problem. There’s no pain any more, the new skin has grown over and it looks good.”
