Brawn eyes F1 future with Ferrari

Ross Brawn cannot see a career beyond Ferrari – providing he is still enjoying his time with the all-conquering Italian team.

Brawn is the technical director and tactical mastermind behind the team’s current reign in Formula One, with Ferrari constructors’ champions since 1999 and Michael Schumacher the track king for the last four years.

Both team and driver are poised to continue their winning streak with Ferrari a dominant 62 points clear of their nearest rivals heading into this weekend’s US Grand Prix at Indianapolis and Schumacher topping the drivers’ standings by 16 points.

But Brawn is showing no signs of getting bored and, given the recent reshuffle within the team, with Jean Todt stepping up to managing director, he has taken on slightly greater responsibilities.

“Right now I’m not contemplating doing anything different,” said Brawn.

“In two years’ time my agreement with Ferrari will have to be renewed and it will be discussed at that stage, but right now I’m enjoying myself too much.”

Todt has stated the day he finishes at Ferrari will be the day he brings to an end his involvement in motorsport although Max Mosley, president of world governing body the FIA, feels the Frenchman has the capabilities to be his successor.

But Brawn can appreciate Todt’s sentiments because working for Ferrari would appear to be the pinnacle for anybody who has ambition within motor racing.

“Jean has other things he wants to do, such as a charitable project he is involved with and wants to put a lot more time into, so he’s other things attractive to him,” added Brawn.

“So I can understand what he says about motor racing because within it, it’s difficult to find something as good as we have here.

“I’ll take a view in a couple of years’ time and if I’m still enjoying it then I will carry on, hopefully at Ferrari."
