Keohane to compete in Nissan World Series
Cork racing driver Michael Keohane will compete in this weekend’s double header races in the in the Nissan World Series in Zolder, Belgium.
The former Irish National Karting champion will return to race action with Carlin Motorsport, the team he drove with in the British Formula 3 Championship in 2002 and a number of races in 2003.
It’s a one off arrangement and follows weekend discussions with team boss, Trevor Carlin.
Keohane still harbours plans to compete in the Champ Car series in America at some stage of the current season – having just failed to put a package together in time for the start of the series.
Commenting on his latest deal, he said, "It all came about relatively quickly when I met Carlin Motorsport boss, Trevor Carlin at Silverstone. He had a car available for the race weekend in Zolder and we did the deal.
"It's a top class championship and the competition is very high with many of the drivers having F1 experience. I haven't sat in a car since the Champ Car test at Seabring, so it will be good to
get the mileage. The car has a Dallara chassis and is powered by a 450 bhp two-litre Nissan engine."
Keohane has raced at the Zolder circuit during his years in Formula Europa but in the meantime, sections of the track have been re-designed.
The Nissan World Series is currently led by Brazilian, Enrique Bernoldi (GD Racing) winner of the opening races at Jarama.
Argentinean, Juan Cruz, is second in the series from former Champ Car driver Tiago Monteiro, who made a strong debut in the series with one podium position and a sixth place to secure third overall after 16 races.
Ex-Jordan Grand Prix driver, Ralph Firman is also on the entry at the weekend.
