Tralee send down Hoops
Tralee Tigers had little trouble containing Shamrock Rovers, running out for a 103-87 victory in the ESB Men's Superleague today.
Damond Williams failed to return from the United States after a mid-season break, and was replaced by 6’7” Travarus Bennett for today’s clash.
Bennett picked up three personal fouls in the first quarter and was forced to sit out much of the game, while Brandon Mason and Chris Bracey controlled the boards for Tralee.
Anthony Jenkins finished the game on 31, points including six 3-pointers, but it was not enough for the Dublin outfit as they trailed 58-39 at half time.
Rovers brought it back to 12-points in the third quarter, but it was as close as they were to get, as Tralee pulled away for the victory.
In Cork, Mardyke UCC Demons scraped a narrow one-point victory over Waterford Crystal.
With Tony Atchison finishing the game on 29-points, Waterford were in touch throughout the game, to be denied in the final moments.
The game levelled on 34-points apiece at half time, with Waterford earning a 3-point edge at the end of the third quarter, before Demons came back to take the points in an exciting final quarter battle, 70-69 fulltime.
