Higgins makes historic maximum

John Higgins became the first-ever player to compile maximum breaks in successive matches after his 147 at Brighton today.

The world number four, who knocked in a maximum during the LG Cup final at Preston last month, constructed another in the fifth frame of his second round match against Michael Judge in the British Open.

The break put Higgins 4-1 ahead – one frame away from victory – and will earn him £20,000 (€28,800) plus £5,000 (€7,200) as the highest break of the televised phase.
