Tommy Kiely, driving a Ford Escort, took a comfortable victory in the Cashel Single Stage Rally. At the finish of the three timed runs he had a 32 second winning margin over the Escort of James Coleman.
Willie Whitty, also in an Escort, was third.
On the first run over the stage it was very close with two seconds covering the top three drivers. Andrew Purcell (Honda Civic) was a second faster than the Escort of Aidan Bourke with Kiely another second adrift in third.
Both Purcell and Bourke crashed on the second run as they battled for supremacy. That allowed Kiely to led by 36 seconds with Coleman and Trevor Harding (Astra) sharing equal second.
Out on the third and final run. Harding had an off road excursion and Kiely had a controlled drive to
victory ahead of Coleman and Whitty.
The top six was completed by Alan Doherty (Nova), Seamus Doyle (Escort) and Doni Keating (Escort).

Derry’s Eugene Donnelly won yesterday’s Mourne Rally, he had some 40 seconds to spare over the Escort WRC of Glen Allen.
George Robinson (Escort Cosworth) and Denis Biggerstaff (Metro) were third and fourth respectively.
