The Chief Executive of the Special Olympics says Irish people have shown enormous support for the staging of the games in Ireland later this year.

The games will move outside America for the first time ever in June.

Head of the Special Olympics, Kim Shriver, speaking in Washington, said the commitment from Irish volunteers is remarkable.

He said that the games are a great tribute to Ireland and also a reflection of the times we live in.
