New Toyota driver Cristiano da Matta claims he will be Formula One world champion within two years.

The Brazilian won the CART series last season and is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jacques Villeneuve who claimed both titles.

Da Matta told German paper Cologne Express: "Winning the World Championship is not my dream, but my goal. I want to win it within two years at the latest.

"Jacques Villeneuve won the CART series and then also won the F1 championship shortly after. So why should I not be able to repeat that?"

German F1 legend Hans Joachim Stuck said: "His comments may sound boastful at times but Toyota have an enormous potential and if things run smoothly they will be at the top in no time."

And fellow F1 driver Juan-Pablo Montoya agreed: "Cristiano has enormous potential. His car handling is incredible and he is as brave as me."
