With a second league victory over Neptune, Sx3 Star are contemplating the league title following a 101-93 home victory over the Corkmen.

Although the league remains tight, Star are now in an enviable position while Neptune face an uphill between now and March.

In a superb game of basketball, Neptune edged a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter with Kenny Gamble on fire for the visitors.

Scott Summersgill was once again unstoppable and caused problems for Neptune, both offensively and defensively, throughout the game.

Pat Campolieta picked up his third personal foul towards the end of the second quarter, and sat out much of the second half of the game.

John Leahy returned from injury and was in white hot form for Star, helping the side to a 55-48 lead at half time.

Star maintained their lead throughout the third quarter, enjoying a 6-point lead (74-68) going into the final period.

David Langrell and Stephen McCarthy played hard for Neptune and were rewarded when the teams leveled at 81-81 with six minutes to go.

The teams leveled at 87 points two minutes later, before 3-pointers from Scott Summersgill and John Leahy gave Star the cushion they needed.

When Neptune's Charron Watson fouled out of the game, the Cork team knew the game was up and the home team finished victorious.
