Notre Dame on a roll

ESB Superleague action resumes this weekend following a brief hiatus which saw Notre Dame pick up the only league points of the last week. Notre Dame defeated Gleneagle Lakers in the league before they went on to defeat the same team to win the premier section of the Castleisland Tournament.

Notre Dame are on the road again this weekend to play Burger King Limerick in the University Arena on Saturday. Limerick's Cleotis Brown returned to the US for Christmas but has rejoined the squad in preparation for a tough game this weekend. Both Limerick and Notre Dame have full squads ahead of the game and following Limerick's shock victory over Star before Christmas,

Notre Dame will be taking nothing for granted.

A season that has so far brought little joy to Frosties Tigers, is likely to change following the introduction of 6'3'' Guard, Antoine Gillespie.

Gillespie arrived in Tralee ahead of the Castleisland tournament and made quite an impression on the competition. Chris Thomson has been released from the club but is expected to sign with another team before the weekend.

John Teahan played in the Kerry derby game before Christmas, but will not play again this season. A back injury was further aggravated during the game, ruling Teahan out of action until September.

A calf injury to John Leahy has kept him out of action for the last three weeks and although he will travel to Tralee this weekend, he is unlikely to play. With a big double header weekend coming up on 10th January, coach Danny Fulton wants Leahy fit for the Killester and Neptune fixtures. Mark

Fulton will be absent this weekend, university exams keeping him occupied in the coming weeks.

The big game in Dublin this weekend is in Glasnevin with Irish Travel Partner Saints and Dart Killester in action. Jerome Westbrooks is likely to play his first game of the season this weekend, a calf injury keeping him out of action for the last few months. A victory for Dart Killester this weekend will keep them in the chasing pack, but a full panel in the St Vincent's camp will ensure a tough task for the visitors.

Mardyke UCC Demons will play Tolka Rovers on Saturday, a repeat of the quarter-finals of the ESB Cup. On that occasion Demons enjoyed an 80-74 victory and will be hoping to repeat the result on Saturday. Gabe Jackson has been added to the Tolka squad since the previous encounter and with Brian Clernon still struggling with a hamstring injury, Demons will have no easy task.

In the women's Superleague, University of Limerick continue to dominate and with a full squad against Meteors this weekend, their top of the table position should be retained.
