Formula One's plan for change

The Formula One Commission are set to debate a radical nine-point plan proposed by F1 chiefs Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone to improve the sport's spectacle.

The plan will be discussed on Monday, and is split into two parts - improving the show and cutting costs.

Improving the show:

(1) Driver swapping

Drivers would be contracted to the governing body and not individual teams and would drive for every team in the first 10 races.

(2) Ballast

Successful drivers would be penalised by having 1kg of ballast added to their cars for every point they scored.

(3) Changed qualifying

Saturday only qualifying scrapped in favour of four half-hour sessions split over Friday and Saturday, aimed at getting more cars on the track at all times.

(4) Bespoke tyres

Tyre manufacturers would be allowed to produce different tyres for individual teams instead of supplying certain compounds to all contracted teams.

Cutting costs:

(5) Reduce testing

Just 12 days of testing would be allowed during the season.

(6) Freeze on aerodynamics

Car's bodywork could only be changed once during mid-season.

(7) Engine life

Engines could be changed only every four races next season.

(8) Gearboxes

Similar to engine rule, gearboxes would have to last certain number of races.

(9) Standardised parts

All teams would use the same brakes and electronics.
