Ralf: Second-best good enough

Ralf Schumacher claims Williams should console themselves with second place in the F1 constructors' championship - despite Ferrari claiming both the drivers' and manufacturers' crowns.

Schumacher claims the goal of a top-two place in the constructors' championship was what team owner Frank Williams had set his sights on at the start of the season.

But Schumacher admitted the disappointing thing was his BMW-powered team finishing so far adrift of Ferrari in both championships.

"Since the second place had been set as our goal for this season, there's no reason for us to be not satisfied," the younger Schumacher said on the BMW website.

"Ferrari's dominating position is, however, a bitter pill as people now wonder whether McLaren was only slightly better than we were."

Despite his team's poor showing, Schumacher was satisfied on a personal level after recording their only win of the season at the Malaysian GP.

Schumacher said: "I've no reason to complain. All in all the season had its ups and downs.

"On the one hand I did some mistakes, on the other hand technical problems and the fact that the team did some mistakes prevented me from achieving a better ranking."

Schumacher was also happy not to be outshone by team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya.

"The duel with my team-mate ended more or less in a draw but, in fact, all that is dwarfed by the huge gap to Ferrari," he added.
