Carroll wins Formula 3 scholarship title
Portadown’s, Adam Carroll (Sweeney Racing) is the 2002 Avon Tyres British Formula 3 Scholarship Champion.
In Snetterton today, he won both Scholarship races and even though there are four races remaining, his point’s tally cannot be overtaken.
Dubliner, Gavin Smith, racing with the Irish registered Meritus team, took a brace of third places.
Meanwhile, in the Championship Class, Robbie Kerr’s double victory gives him a 21 points lead over rival and Formula 1 test driver, James Courtney.
Dominating from the start, Michael Barrable and co-driver, Dermot O’Gorman won the Galway Summer Rally.
Paul Harris (Subaru), who was expected to mount a challenge, crashed on the first stage and Patrick
Elliott (Subaru), second for most of today, crashed on the final stage.
Barrable lost time with a blown turbo and 34 seconds were lost on the start line of one stage due to gear difficulties.
Nevertheless, they still ran out easy winners ahead of the similar Subaru WRC of J.J. Fleming/Robbie Ward, the margin between them was a minute and 27 seconds.
Ivan Stewart/Gerard Callaghan (Escort Cosworth) finished third.
The Group N category was won by the Mitsubishi Evo 6 of James Foley/Andrew Cullen.
Eamonn Byrne won the two rounds of the Hewison Autotest series in Cork while Richard Percy (Ford
Special) won the Killarney Loose Surface Autocross.
