RUSTU RECBER (goalkeeper) - He was dragged from his car and beaten up by angry fans in 1999 after his Fenerbahce side were knocked out of the Turkish Cup by minnows Pendikspor. Probably the best goalkeeper Turkey has ever produced, Rustu threatened to quit football after the incident, but was persuaded to stick it out. He has been Turkey’s number one for seven years, but was troubled by injury in the World Cup build-up before bouncing back with a great display in the opener against Brazil.
