Rallying: Maguire, Harrison share Circuit of Kerry lead

A tense and exciting contest at the Circuit of Kerry, the second round of the Dunlop National Rally Championship has Niall Maguire and Jim Harrison, both in Subarus, sharing equal time after four stages.

Liam O’Callaghan, also in a Subaru - on his first rally in three and a half years, is third, a further seven

seconds in arrears with Donal O’Donovan, in a Toyota Celica, sharing fourth with the Subaru of Tim McNulty.

British driver, Harrison was quickest over the first stage at Minard, outside Dingle where his closes rival was Maguire - two seconds behind.

Paul Harris was third, however, his Subaru blew its engine on the next stage.

Harrison and Maguire reported no problems, although the searing heat is causing tyre problems as they strive for supremacy.

O’Callaghan commented he was pleased with his performance while O’Donovan lost time on the fourth stage when the water injection system of his Celica malfunctioned.

Meanwhile, the April Navigation Trial in Macroom last night was won by Donal Healy/Peter Keohane.

They finished the 95-mile route with zero penalties. They got the verdict over John McCarthy/David Swanton and Ger Gowan/Diarmuid O’Donovan, who also had zero penalties.
