Boxing: Michigan renews Tyson's license
Michigan has renewed Mike Tyson's boxing license, clearing the way for a possible Detroit-area bout with Lennox Lewis.
Spokesman Matt Resch said the governor's office was informed by the Department of Consumer and Industry Services that Tyson's license had been renewed until August 2002.
Michigan can deny a license only if a boxer is on suspension in any other state, in jail or fails a pre-fight physical.
Detroit is competing against several other states for the Tyson-Lewis fight - Tyson also has been licensed in Tennessee.
Tyson adviser Shelly Finkel said meetings with arena officials, local politicians and casino executives convinced him the fight could be held in Tennessee.
But Finkel said Washington is still in the running, and Detroit has an outside chance of landing the fight. He said the site would be announced by the end of the week.
