Despite losing time on today’s second stage of the Irishmobiles.com West Cork Rally, Melvyn Evans in an Escort WRC continues to hold the advantage in slippery conditions.

Currently, after S.S. 11, Evans is 32 seconds ahead of the Subaru WRC of Steve Fleck, with Pete Doughty (Subaru) occupying third place - a further 26 seconds adrift.

Evans posted the quickest time on the morning’s first stage at Shannonvale to extend his advantage to 36 seconds, however, the windscreen misted over on the next stage, Ballinacarriga and Fleck closed to within 13 seconds. Pete Doughty and Jim Harrison shared third at the end of SS 10.

Two of the overnight top ten departed the fray - Ollie O’Donovan crashed his EARS Subaru Legacy and Tony Davies (Metro), who was encountering brake problems, was parked in the stage.

Evans regained his composure and duly extended his lead to those 32 seconds after the stage near Rosscarbery. Fleck was disappointed on his time through the stage with Doughty moving into a clear third ahead of Harrison and Price.

Tommy Graham, in the Ryan’s liveried Subaru WRC, is the top Irish driver - 42 seconds ahead of the Subaru WRC of JJ Fleming. The top ten also includes Phil Collins (Escort), Mark Morgan (Mitsubishi) and Barry Coleman.
