Winter Olympics: Annan celebrates Olympics

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan will attend the opening of the Winter Olympics tomorrow - the first time a UN chief will see the games start.

Mr Annan was invited to the start of the winter games in Salt Lake City by International Olympic Committee Director General Francois Carrard

‘‘I am eager to join you in Salt Lake City to celebrate the commitment and the achievements of young people who are the true wealth of the Olympic movement and the communities they represent,’’ Mr Annan said in a statement accepting the invitation.
