Alan Warriner overcame a poor start against Dave Askew to book his place in the semi-finals of the Paddy Power World Grand Prix Championship, with a 6-2 victory.

Warriner looked strangely out of sorts at the start and Askew capitalised to race into a two-set lead

With the score locked at 2-2 'Diamond' Dave Askew held his nerve to clinch the opener and completely dominated the next set.

But Warriner is not called the 'Ice Man' for nothing, and he showed coolness under pressure to pull a set back.

The number two seed almost let a two-leg lead slip away in the fourth set but he found double top with his first attempt to level the score at 2-2.

Warriner then moved ahead for the first time in the match, helped by a 114 checkout, and he also claimed the next set to take control.

Askew simply could not cope with the pressure being exerted by Warriner, who won the seventh set 3-0.

The Surrey-based player won his first leg in eight attempts at the start of the ninth, but a 121 checkout put Warriner in the driving seat and he clinched victory by taking the next leg.
