Soccer: Brown admits preferance for Alex
Former Scotland manager Craig Brown has revealed a preference for a compatriot rather than foreigner to succeed him and admitted Alex Ferguson would be the ideal choice.
Brown, who quit the national side earlier this month after more than 15 years, eight of them as manager has, like Ferguson and Andy Roxburgh, been advising the Scottish Football Association in their quest to fill the void.
However, while he says he is not against appointing a coach from overseas, Brown, who remains director of football development for the SFA, believes there is enough home-grown talent to render it unnecessary to do so.
‘‘I would prefer a Scottish coach because we train Scottish coaches and the doyen of coaching is Alex. And we have many more competent coaches in Scotland.’’
On Manchester United manager Ferguson taking the reins, Brown added: ‘‘That would be the ideal scenario.
‘‘But he has other plans when he retires, especially in the horseracing field.’’
