Motorsport: Racing cut short at wet Knockhil
At an extremely wet track at Knockhill in Scotland,
venue for the latest round of the PowerTour series,
racing finally got underway some two and a half hours
after the original 10. 00 a.m. start.
In the British Formula 3 Championship Scholarship
race, Brazilian ace, Ernani Judice took his first win
of the season - taking a lights to flag victory over
Northern Ireland’s Mathew Gilmore and Robbie Kerr, who
retains his championship lead.
Cork’s Michael Keohane fell victim to the every
slippery conditions, spinning out of the race after
twenty laps. Keohane moved into third after Robert
Doornbos spun soon after the start of the second lap.
The safety car was out for a number of laps when one
of the back markers spun at Clark corner.
When the safety car it peeled away, Keohane closed on
Kerr and on lap 20, he went past the championship
leader. However, all his endeavours came to an end
almost instantly. Just after his overtaking
manoeuvre, the rear wheel of his

Pudding car edged up on the kerbing and spun across
the track.
The advancing Kerr could not prevent making contact
and Keohane’s car ended up stricken on the grass.
Kerr made an error on the same lap that allowed
Matthew Gilmore through and the order remained
unchanged over the closing laps.
Elsewhere, Takuma Sato won the A Championship race
where Northern Ireland’s, Derek Hayes was fifth.
In the Slick 50 Formula Ford race, Patrick Long is the
new championship leader after taking the chequered
flag ahead of Ronnie Bremer and Portadown’s, Gary
Turkington.
There was a win for Colin Turkington in the Ford
Fiesta Challenge race, another Irish racer, Eoin
Murray finished fourth. A number of races, including
two Formula 3 races were cancelled due to the very wet
conditions.
