Motorport: Safari Rally - Makinen leads at end of second leg
Setting the fastest time on the ninth and final stage (Mbaruk – 84.58Km) of the second leg, Tommi Makinen (Mitsubishi) has increased his lead in the Safari
Rally to over six minutes.
The Peugeot 206 of Harri Rovanpera remains his closest challenger, six minutes
and 27 seconds behind.
Subaru’s Peter Solberg is third with Armin Schwarz (Skoda) claiming fourth from Ford driver, Francois Delecour, who punctured his Focus WRC.
The Skoda of Bruno Thiry completes the top six.
The principal retirement was that of Carlos Sainz, his Ford stopped on the opening stage of the day.
