Olympics: Rogge vows to work with rivals
Jacques Rogge vowed to work together with his four fellow candidates after being announced the new IOC President.
Rogge replaces Juan Antonio Samaranch who steps down after 21 years at the helm.
The Belgian said the role was the 'top job in sport' after his landslide victory.
"It is not in my nature to prepare post-election speeches but what I will say will come out of my heart," said the Belgian surgeon.
"My first words are for my IOC colleagues. I thank them for showing me confidence and electing me. I promise them that I will work very hard for the future of the IOC and the Olympic movement.
"My second thoughts are for my four fellow competitors. We have had a hard but very dignified campaign. In every competition there is one winner but in this competition there is no loser."
Rogge confirmed that he would work alongside his fellow candidates.
"I will definitely want to work very closely with them because they have so many talents."
Rogge's first official duty was to present the IOC's highest honour, the Olympic Order in gold, to Samaranch.
"In recognition of his outstanding merit in the cause of world sport and his faithfulness to the Olympic ideal," said Rogge as he made the presentation to Samaranch.
