Boxing: McCullough's bid to box in Belfast fails

The former boxing world champion, Wayne McCullough has had his bid for a

licence to fight in his home town of Belfast rejected by the British Boxing

Board of Control.

McCullough had intended to resume his career in Britain after spending the most of his professional years in Las Vegas after winning a silver medal in 1992 at the Barcelona Olympics.

The Ulsterman was supposed to meet Hungary's Sander Koczek last October

in Belfast but a brain scan revealed a cyst and it had to be postponed.

A new application on the behalf of the boxer to box under the British Board's

jurisdiction has also been turned down.

The Board also stated that they would also not be able to grant an alien permit, which would allow him to box there on a temporary basis.
